A genetic predisposition to the development of veins plays a role, as do the changes in hormones at puberty or pregnancy and the use of the birth control pill.
Sitting or standing for too long during the day appears to worse leg veins as well. Occasionally, veins may cause an aching sensation or pain.

What to expect
The area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic. Then a tiny fine needle will be placed into the superficial veins and the liquid medication will be administered. The medication causes an irritation to the lining of the vein and which causes it to close down.
The number of veins injected in one session varies depending on the size, amount and location of the veins to be treated. Should you have multiple varicose or spider veins that require treatment, you may need several Sclerotherapy sessions to close all affected veins.
Results
Sclerotherapy is very effective and safe for most patients. Please note that several sessions may be required to achieve complete elimination of varicose and spider veins.
The unsightly veins will begin to fade with full results evident after 6- 8 weeks. Most patients wear compression stockings to support healing and better results. There is no downtime for this treatment.
